Welcome from the Headteacher

The journey for Ruislip High School began when the school opened its doors to its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2006. In its short history, the school is proud to have been graded Outstanding by Ofsted in November 2007 and June 2011. The school’s reputation has grown in the local community as a school of choice in an area of excellent school provision. On 1st September 2018, Ruislip High School joined the Vanguard Learning Trust, a local multi-academy trust, with Ryefield Primary School and Vyners Secondary School. We believe this is an exciting opportunity to develop a strong partnership with local schools which will provide more opportunities for our respective school communities.

At Ruislip High School we believe in the mantra that ‘hard work equals success’ and this can be seen not only with our alumni, some of whom have attended the most prestigious universities in the country, but also in the resilience and character of all our current students who are academically driven and motivated to make a meaningful contribution to our society.  I could not be prouder of the community and culture that our students and staff have created together. As a leadership team we believe passionately that education opens doorways and allows students to fulfil their undoubted potential.

Ruislip High School’s logo reflects the students’ journey from grass roots to reaching for the sky. We believe high aspirations are realised through high expectations. We believe that students need to take responsibility for their learning and their actions. Students are encouraged to be challenged in lessons and to understand that learning is not always about getting the right answer!

We are a school both in, and for, the community. We believe that engagement with our local community is essential. We have set up strong relations with local businesses, our feeder primary schools and with higher education institutions such as Brunel University. We work closely with parents and have fostered an open and reflective relationship through our annual parental questionnaires and termly parents’ focus groups. In addition, we are fortunate to be supported by the Friends of Ruislip High School, our PTA, which has shown a commitment to the school since its genesis in 2006.

Teaching and learning will always be at the heart of everything we do at Ruislip High School. It is our core business and we will never lose sight of its importance. However, we also recognise that education is more than what happens in the classroom. The school runs an extensive ‘above and beyond’ programme that encourages students to thrive and pursue their interests whether these are extensions to the curriculum such as science club or more extra-curricular clubs ranging from gardening to Gaelic football. We are also one of the few schools to offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award at all levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. We believe that students continue to develop their self-esteem and pride through their achievement in lessons and their commitment to enrichment activities, especially when they have to face new challenges.

We also ensure that our students have an established and effective ‘voice’. Student leadership is encouraged throughout the school and leadership teams exist in Year 9, 11 and the sixth form. Year team councils are well established and 2019 saw the creation of the Ruislip High School Student Parliament.

It is through students’ positive engagement and sense of ownership that the school has gone from strength to strength. In September 2012, we were delighted to inform the local community that we had increased our Year 7 intake from 150 to 180. In 2019, the school expanded again to 210 students in the Year 7 cohort. To accommodate the increase in student population, a new wing is being built that will house our brand new state-of-the-art sixth form centre.

Our vision for Ruislip High School is to build on our excellent foundation, ensuring that we provide all our students with a broad and balanced secondary education which will equip them for their future lives. I hope visitors find this website useful and informative, and I would welcome the opportunity of welcoming any prospective students or parents to the school in the near future.
