Year 7 Trip to London

On Wednesday 25th June, 2025, the majority of our Year 7 students enjoyed an inspiring trip to Westminster Abbey and the National Portrait Gallery, deepening their understanding of History outside the classroom.

This beautifully sunny day began with a fascinating tour of Westminster Abbey, Britain's coronation church since 1066. Students were in awe at the beauty of the building and saw of the medieval Coronation Chair which is one of the most precious and famous pieces of furniture in the world, and the grave of the Unknown Warrior, an unidentified member of the British Imperial armed forces who died on the western front during the First World War. Over 3000 people are buried at the Abbey, including Sir Isaac Newton and many famous poets and writers.

Afterwards, the group visited the National Portrait Gallery, where students explored a range of Tudor portraits, directly linking to their current curriculum. They also had a glimpse of what lies ahead in Year 8, with powerful artworks from the English Civil War period.

The year group also got to enjoy the weather, with their lunch taking place in St. James’ Park. This gave everyone a chance to relax and soak up the sunshine!

Ms Loizou, Head of Year 7, said: “What an amazing opportunity for our students! The students were a credit to our school and I know that they all took lots away from the day. It was wonderful to see them learning beyond the classroom.

It was a thoroughly enriching and enjoyable trip and well done to the students for being engaged and enthusiastic, even when their feet got tired. We look forward to building on this learning as we continue through the History curriculum.
