Visit to The Wimbledon Championships
On Thursday 3rd July 2025, the PE Department took a group of excited RHS students set off for an unforgettable day at the Wimbledon Championships, held at the world-famous All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Known as the home of tennis, Wimbledon gave students the chance to experience a truly special atmosphere.
One of the day’s biggest highlights was watching a dramatic match between Mirra Andreeva and Lucia Bronzetti in the Ladies’ Singles. Mirra, just 17 years old and already one of the top seeds, started strong, taking the first set in under half an hour. But the second set was a real nailbiter; Bronzetti came back fighting, and at one point was just two points away from winning the set. Mirra kept her cool, pulled off some incredible shots, and eventually won in a tense tiebreak. The crowd was completely hooked, and our students couldn’t believe they were seeing such high-level tennis up close!
As well as the matches, the students enjoyed walking around the beautifully kept grounds - spotting famous players, and learning about Wimbledon’s long history and traditions. Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying strawberries and cream! It’s a classic Wimbledon treat, and it made relaxing on Henman Hill all the more enjoyable.
For the majority of the students on the trip, this was their first time at a major sports event, and they were incredibly positive about their experience. Students described the day as ‘inspiring’, ‘so much fun’, and even a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip.
Trips like this help bring learning to life and create memories that last long after the final serve. Thank you to the PE Department for organising the trip for our students. Their behaviour, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day were brilliant - they really did the school proud.
