Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
On the first weekend in July, 24 Year 12 and 13 students headed out from RHS in search of adventure - in the form of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award! The weekend took place in the Brecon Beacons, with the students facing a mixture of weather conditions over the five days.
Over the course of the weekend, the students demonstrated key skills in teamwork, navigation and outdoor survival. During the expedition, three of the students were being assessed for the final award - all passed with flying colours. This means, they will now be invited to Buckingham Palace in the near future to collect their Gold DofE Award, which we are certain will be a very special occasion.
Amber, who passed the Gold Award assessment on the weekend, told us: ‘It was a challenging weekend, but a very fulfilling one. I loved having the chance to spend time with my friends whilst completing the expedition. I want to thank all of my teachers for their support in helping me to complete all stages of the award.’
Thank you to all of the staff members who supported the expedition; it is wonderful that RHS is able to offer this opportunity to so many of our students at all levels of the award. However, we are so proud of the students who see the Award through Bronze, Silver and Gold - it is an incredible achievement (cue Spandau Ballet).
