A Royal Honour: Mr Joseph Receives MBE for Services to Basketball

Following on from our previous good news story announcing that Mr. Joseph, Head of Year 11, had been awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List 2025 for his extensive services to basketball, we are delighted to share further details of his incredible investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Mr. Joseph received his honour in a ceremony marked by perfect weather and historic grandeur. He was accompanied by his supportive wife and their two boys, aged 12 and 8, for an experience that will live long in the family’s memory.

While the investiture itself was the pinnacle of the day, it was a humorous backstage encounter that provided the lasting anecdote. While washing his hands, Mr. Joseph struck up a casual conversation with a gentleman at the sink, only to realize moments later that he had been chatting with the newly knighted actor, Sir Gary Oldman. The subsequent revelation to his sons—that he had just spoken to "Sirius Black himself" in the restroom—left his eldest completely speechless.

The main event saw Mr. Joseph proudly receiving the Member of the Order of the British Empire from Prince William. The Prince was described as warm, engaging, and genuinely interested in Mr. Joseph's dedication to sport. They spoke at length about his achievements, including his Commonwealth Games bronze and gold medals, and the vital community work he has spearheaded through Ball Out 3x3 over the past 11 years. Their conversation highlighted the global expansion of 3x3 Basketball and its uplifting impact on communities across the UK.

Reflecting on the magnitude of the day, Mr. Joseph affirmed that the honour serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of hard work, consistency, community engagement, and having strong support in life.

This recognition not only celebrates Mr. Joseph’s personal achievements but also reflects the high standard of dedication and commitment championed within our school community. And, as Mr. Joseph advises: never underestimate who you might bump into, even in the most unexpected corners of Windsor Castle.
