Welcome from the Head of Sixth Form

Welcome to our thriving sixth form. We are a proud centre of academic excellence and a diverse, inclusive and happy community. We have clear and effective pastoral and academic systems which enable our students to succeed, as well as an enriching extra-curricular offer and a meaningful tutorial programme. We have a record of guiding our students to aspirational, world-leading destinations post-18, and have at our core the desire to see every single student succeed both academically and personally during their time with us.

Our sixth formers are taught by dedicated and inspiring teachers who are all subject experts. We offer a full range of A Level courses, as well as a  vocational BTEC pathway. The classroom teaching is additionally supported by two specialised Learning Mentors to assist with the demands of sixth form study - an enhanced staffing model that is unique to our sixth form to ensure that every student has the one-to-one support they need to fulfil their potential.

Students in our sixth form receive outstanding pastoral support through a team of specially-trained tutors who support them throughout their two year journey with us. In Year 12, for example, there is an entire week dedicated to supporting students in their university applications and career choices after Ruislip High School. In Year 13, every student receives specialist help in writing and editing their personal statements. As a result, Year 13 students have been successful in a range of university applications to Oxford and Cambridge to study subjects including Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Law, Natural Sciences, Human Sciences, History, English Literature, Earth Sciences, Architecture and Geography. Additionally, Year 13 students have been successful in applying to study Medicine at a range of UK universities.

We recognise that an excellent sixth form education is based on more than A-level and BTEC grades, and our students are expected to involve themselves fully in the wider life of the sixth form. Whether that be signing up to a bi-weekly Above and Beyond Club, which range from basketball to current affairs, yoga and mindfulness to fantasy football.

We also have a hugely impactful guest speaker programme, which has included speakers such as former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and David Dein MBE, founder of the Premier League.

Students are also invited to work with the lower year groups and our Sixth Form students provide invaluable support and encouragement to the rest of the school. In the past, there have been a varied range of Sixth Form trips on offer, from one-day visits to London, including the Houses of Parliament or the Institute of Physics, and more substantial international trips such as a visit to the Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland and to a Nature Reserve in South Africa. In March 2018, 2020 and 2023 Ruislip High School were one of a handful of UK schools who were chosen to send delegates to the Model United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In 2021, the school opened its new wing which includes a new state-of-the-art sixth form centre, right at the heart of the school. These fantastic facilities include two dedicated study rooms, and a brilliant sixth form cafe where students can relax and socialise.

We are extremely proud of our sixth form, and all our staff are committed to working with students and their families to ensure the young adults in our care reach their full potential.
