The journey for Ruislip High School began when the school opened its doors to its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2006. In its short history, the school is proud to have been graded Outstanding by Ofsted in November 2007 and June 2011. The school’s reputation has grown in the local community as a school of choice in an area of excellent school provision. On 1st September 2018, Ruislip High School joined Vanguard Learning Trust, a local multi-academy trust, with Ryefield Primary School and Vyners Secondary School. We believe this is an exciting opportunity to develop a strong partnership with local schools which will provide more opportunities for our respective school communities.
Ruislip High School’s logo reflects the students’ journey from grass roots to reaching for the sky. We believe high aspirations are realised through high expectations. We believe that students need to take responsibility for their learning and their actions. Students are encouraged to be challenged in lessons and to understand that learning is not always about getting the right answer!
At Ruislip High, we offer students a diverse range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom: for example, we are one of a few schools to offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award at all levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. We believe that students continue to develop their self-esteem and pride through their achievement in lessons and their commitment to enrichment activities, especially when they have to face new challenges.
We are a school both in, and for, the community. We strive to be the best school we can be for our community and are determined to educate all our students so that they can fulfil their undoubted potential. We believe that engagement with our local community is essential. We have set up strong relations with local businesses, our feeder primary schools and with higher education institutions such as Brunel University. We work closely with parents and have fostered an open and reflective relationship through our annual parental questionnaires and termly parents’ focus groups. In addition, we are fortunate to be supported by the Friends of Ruislip High School, our PTA, which has shown a commitment to the school since its genesis in 2006.
We also ensure that our students have an established and effective ‘voice’ through subject focus groups, student questionnaires, our three groups of student leadership (Year 9, 11 and sixth form) and year team councils. It is through students’ positive engagement and sense of ownership that the school has gone from strength to strength. In September, 2012, we were delighted to inform the local community that we had increased our Year 7 intake from 150 to 180. In 2019, the school will expand again to 210 students in the Year 7 cohort. To accommodate the increase in student population, a new wing will be built and should be complete in 2020. As part of the expansion, the school is opening two special resource provisions: one for physically disabled students and the other for high-functioning autistic students. These provisions reflect the school’s commitment to inclusive and comprehensive education.
Our vision for Ruislip High School is to build on our excellent foundation, ensuring that we provide all our students with a broad and balanced secondary education which will equip them for their future lives.
