A-Level History Students Visit the National Archives

Sixth Form History students in Year 13 visited the National Archives in Kew on Thursday 12 September.

The group of 19 students examined primary sources in relation to civil rights in America, and also viewed an original copy of the United States Declaration of Independence.

Students were accompanied by Mr Maud, Head of History, and Ms Horton, Teacher of History and Head of Sixth Form.

Mr Maud said, “The students really enjoyed the visit, and it helped them understand the importance of primary historical sources in greater depth. They were very impressed to see the American Declaration of Independence. This important document announced that the 13 American colonies then at war with Great Britain were now independent states, and no longer a part of the British Empire.”
