Year 9 Options 2021-2023
During Year 9, students decide which subjects they will study for GCSE.
It is compulsory for all students to study English Language, English Literature, Maths and Science in Years 10 and 11 as well as taking part in core PE. Students either study Combined Science (a mixture of Biology, Chemistry and Physics worth two GCSEs) or Triple Science (three GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Students who study Combined Science will continue to study GCSE Citizenship which was started in Year 9.
The majority of students also study a modern foreign language (French, Spanish or Latin) and one or more of the following: Geography, History or Computer Science.
Other options include GCSEs in Art and Design, Drama, Media Studies, Music and PE. BTecs (GCSE equivalents) include Enterprise and Marketing, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism and Sport.
It is important for students to choose subjects that will interest and motivate them and, ideally, to have a good balance of subjects as this helps keep options open for the future. Ruislip High School staff are available to guide, advise and support students through this process, and the online Options Evening will take place on Thursday 25th March 2021.
Ruislip High School has also produced a Year 9 Options Information Booklet to help simplify the information our students will need to make their selections. This will be available on the website.
The Options Booklet and the Options Evening Video Presentation are available below. Please click on the images.
