Key Stage 4

The purpose of the Latin curriculum is to provide students with an opportunity to study a classical subject. Ruislip High School is one of a select few comprehensive schools that offers the subject at GCSE, allowing students to develop literacy in Latin (which supports English) as well as developing students’ resilience and providing cultural opportunities. Students study texts and stories in Latin to build knowledge and understanding of Latin vocabulary, accidence and syntax.

In prose and verse literature, students study Latin set texts and answer questions in English on aspects of content and analyse, evaluate and respond to the ancient literature they have studied.

The prescribed texts for 2020/2021 examination are:

From the Cambridge Latin Anthology:

Germanicus et Piso by Tacitus

Piso in Syria, The death of Germanicus, Mourning, Revenge

personae non gratae, by Pliny
